Responsible AI Statement
NextWave Youth supports the responsible, creative and critical use of artificial intelligence in youth education, media literacy and digital creativity.
1. Our approach to AI
NextWave Youth sees artificial intelligence as a supportive tool for learning, creativity, communication and future skills development.
AI should help young people explore ideas, create responsibly, think critically and understand the digital world more confidently.
AI is not intended to replace human judgment, creativity, ethical responsibility or meaningful human interaction.
2. AI literacy as a future skill
AI literacy is an important part of digital citizenship. Young people should understand not only how AI tools work, but also where their limits, risks and responsibilities are.
NextWave Youth aims to encourage practical understanding of:
- how AI tools can support creativity and learning
- how AI-generated content may be inaccurate or biased
- how to question and verify digital information
- how to use AI ethically and responsibly
- how AI may influence media, communication and society
3. Human-centered use
AI should remain a tool guided by people. We encourage human oversight, critical thinking and responsible decision-making whenever AI-generated content or AI-supported processes are used.
Young participants should be encouraged to ask:
- Is this information reliable?
- Could this content be biased or misleading?
- Does this output respect other people?
- Should this be verified before sharing?
- Is it appropriate to use AI in this context?
4. Transparency
Where AI tools are used in creative or educational contexts, NextWave Youth supports transparency and honest communication.
Participants should be encouraged to understand when content has been created, edited or supported by AI tools, especially in media projects, public communication or educational activities.
5. Creativity, not manipulation
AI can support storytelling, design, video concepts, scripts, images, music ideas and digital learning formats.
However, AI should not be used to manipulate, deceive, harass, exploit or harm others.
NextWave Youth does not support the use of AI for:
- hate speech or discriminatory content
- cyberbullying or harassment
- deepfake misuse
- identity deception
- misinformation campaigns
- non-consensual use of personal images, voices or likenesses
- content that exploits or endangers minors
6. Youth protection and AI
The use of AI in youth-related activities requires particular care.
AI tools should be used in age-appropriate ways and with attention to privacy, safety, consent, emotional impact and digital wellbeing.
Where minors are involved in future workshops, media activities or digital projects, additional safeguards may be required, including parental or guardian consent, supervised participation and clear rules for the use of personal media materials.
7. Privacy and personal data
AI tools should not be used carelessly with personal, sensitive or private information.
Participants should avoid entering personal data, private messages, confidential materials, images of minors or sensitive information into AI systems unless there is a clear legal basis, appropriate consent and a safe technical framework.
More information can be found in our Privacy Policy.
8. Bias, fairness and inclusion
AI systems may reflect biases from their training data, design or usage context. This can affect language, culture, gender, background, appearance, ability, religion, nationality or social identity.
NextWave Youth encourages critical reflection and inclusive use of AI tools, especially in intercultural and youth-centered environments.
